Chances are if you are familiar with gacha games, then you have probably stumbled across the iconic Fate Grand Order mobile game. So it’s your first time playing, and you want to get a feel for what this game has to offer, well you are in luck as this beginner’s guide will cover all the questions you may be dying to ask. The game itself is based on the popular light novel series; Fate Stay Night, which also happens to have an anime adaptation. Since Fate is a very popular franchise, it would make sense for there to be a Fate mobile game. Unsurprisingly, this game’s design has many “gacha” elements thrown in it, and the game can sometimes feel like a Play-to-win heavy experience when trying to find rare servants. The gameplay is very addictive, and if you’re a fan of the anime then this game has a lot of servants that are from the anime. Now that we got all of that out of the way, let us begin the guide to FGO.
Servants in FGO
Servants are essentially heroic fighters that you use for combat. Some are better than others, and all servants have their strengths and weaknesses.

As of now, there are 14 classes in the game:
– Shielder
– Saber
– Archer
– Lancer
– Rider
– Caster
– Assassin
– Berserker
– Ruler
– Avenger
– Moon Cancer
– Alter Ego
– Beast
– Foreigner
As shown in the attack triangle above, each class has its strengths and weaknesses. The red indicates that it is effective, whereas the blue indicates that it resists attacks. It is crucial that you understand the attack triangle so you can have an easier time in combat.
There are a total of 200+ servants in the game!
FGO has over 200+ servants and more to come! with an abundance of servants to choose from, creating a team should be fairly easy. Then again if you are looking for a diverse team, then you should probably be selective with who you choose. Not all servants are treated equally, as unfortunately, some servants aren’t as competitively viable as others. Once you finish the tutorial, you will receive a freeroll that will have the chance to yield you some very good servants, which will definitely give you a headstart. If you are lucky enough to roll Emiya, then you will definitely have a super-powerful start. Once you finish the tutorial and establish the basics, you will need to create a team of diverse classes, so you don’t risk being super vulnerable to your opponent.

Some servants can only be obtained through special events, or likewise. These events usually last only for a limited time, and once they are gone the servants are gone as well. So definitely keep an eye out for these limited edition servants as they could be very helpful in combat. There’s a ranking system in FGO, and it goes from 0-5. the higher the rank is, the level cap will also be higher. Generally speaking, 4 and 5-star servants are usually very good in combat, though rarity generally doesn’t determine how good a servant is.
Rarity is irrelevant
Rarity in FGO doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things. Whether your servant is a super rare 5 star or a cheap and boring 1 star, the bottom line is that the rarities really have no impact on how good a servant will be. One of the best farmers in FGO is a whopping 1-star! crazy I know right, but it’s actually one of the best servants in the game.
In general, however, rarity doesn’t really have an impact on how good a servant will be. Rarity is more or less how “rare” that servant is, but it has no correlation to how good it’s going to be. It is important to look at what the servant has to offer, rather than only picking higher rarity servants. This is a common mistake that new players make, and it can be somewhat negative if you are disregarding the significance of lower rarity servants.
Burning servants
In FGO, you have the ability to burn/sell your servant which can usually yield mana prisms and other goodies. However, you should absolutely refrain from burning your servants at the early stages of the game, because you need every advantage you can get. Burning a servant will be consequential to getting through the early parts of the game, so I highly recommend you avoid burning if at all possible. Burning can eventually come in handy later in the game if you’re trying to farm goodies, but during the beginning, you should avoid this.

You should evaluate the servant you are attempting to burn before taking action because if you accidentally burn the wrong servant, it could be very fatal to your team. Losing a really good servant, believe it or not, will hurt your team by a significant amount, so it is better to wait until you have a large number of servants before burning.
Leveling Up
Through my experience, the most optimal way to level up in FGO is by playing very difficult quests that yield a ton of XP. This is the fastest known way to level up early on in FGO. For a lot of newer players, these insanely difficult quests may be a challenge to tackle, and it will take some practice to master. However, the reward is worth the trouble as you get an insane amount of XP, increasing your master level by a lot. You may also get a ton of rewards like Saint Quartz, and AP, which is another reason why leveling up fast is super beneficial.
Leveling up fast can be achieved quicker by using a very well-made team. You can see other players’ teams to get a glance at what is effective in a certain quest. Of course, you can also use your own team, but you should keep in mind that you will need to have at least one strong servant in your team to tackle these very difficult quests.

Conclusion
Hopefully, you found this information beneficial! As you can tell GTO is a very complex game with a lot of things to do. Once you master the basics, you can start collecting servants, participating in events, and fighting in more difficult and strategic battles. The beginning can be quite fierce and intimidating at first, but once you get the hang of things, this game will become insanely fun and addicting!
